PolitiFact: Live Fact Checking of Televised Political Events

Politicians and political candidates often will make statements during live broadcasts about important issues that may or may not be entirely accurate. Currently, there is no way to live check these statements other than going to websites like PolitiFact or the Washington Post. PolitiFact is aiming to create a solution that is easily accessible via TV and informs the general public about the truthfulness of these statements. With this in mind, we worked with PolitiFact to accomplish the following:

  • Determine a design direction, and user interface (UI) for a fact check on a TV screen. This direction includes determining what icon, font size, colors to use, placement of the fact check, and general accessibility considerations.
  • Understand the value proposition of having a live fact check during political events such as State of the Unions and political debates.
