Building a Skill for Amazon’s Alexa

When we set out to make an Alexa skill for requesting information from the Washington State Ferry system, we brought our experience in natural language, user experience design, and software development to create a skill that allows users to talk to their Echo device in the way they’d expect to interact with another person.

In this project showcase, we describe our process for creating interaction models, developing the skill, testing the experience with ferry riders, refining it and obtaining Amazon certification.
